David P. Byers Ph.D.
OMAHA, NE

David Byers always wanted to be a teacher. When he went to college, he let himself be talked out of pursuing a degree in Education because those who were "older and wiser" said there were no jobs (and no money) to be had in that career field. So he steadily pursued a variety of college courses until he had enough credits for a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Theater. While he never actively pursued a career in Speech or Theater, his education and experience with both have helped him throughout his career.
"Although I didn't end up with an undergraduate degree in Education," Dr. Byers states, "the desire to be an educator never left me. As a result, my career path has consistently involved teaching in one capacity or another."
Dr. Byers was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. After earning his bachelor's degree and then a master's degree in Adult and Continuing Education, he and his wife Chandra moved to Omaha in 1996 to work as Family Teachers at the famous Boys Town facility. After leaving Boys Town, he took a position as a trainer for a corporation in the Omaha area and worked there for eight years during which time he also started teaching management courses part-time for Bellevue University.
Near the end of his corporate trainer career, he went back to school to earn his Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Teaching and Learning. He now works full-time as an Assistant Professor and Director for the Master of Arts in Leadership program at Bellevue University.
He and Chandra have been married for over twenty years. They have six children, three girls and three boys, ranging in ages from two to eighteen. They have been teaching them at home for over twelve years.
