UNDERSTANDING THE TEENAGE BRAIN
DENVER, COLORADO—Teenagers are part child,
part adult, and part alien, according to parenting expert Corrie Lynne
Player. And a key part of parenting is understanding how they think.
Ms. Player will be presenting a parenting
workshop at the
Lynchburg Barnes and Noble on Tuesday, May 16 at 7pm. She will also be signing copies of her new book, Loving
Firmness: Successfully Raising Teenagers Without Losing Your Mind.
In addition to having a masters degree in
education from Stanford and having written several books about parenting,
Ms. Player has successfully raised nine of her own children plus over
forty troubled foster children. She lectures nationally and has written
articles for Family Circle, Parents, and Ladies Home Journal. She is a
parenting expert for the ClubMom web site and also
writes a weekly newspaper column on parenting.
Ms. Player will explain:
Ms. Player teaches a no-nonsense approach
to raising teenagers, balanced with deep affection and a soft touch. She
emphasizes the importance of teens having chores to do and being
accountable to simple, consistent rules. She stresses teaching a strong
work ethic, and is very firm about the need to teach religion and values
to teens. She also delves into health issues including eating habits and
healthy sleep habits. She teaches parents how to deal with eating
disorders, brushes with the law, teen rebelliousness, and other problem
behaviors that she has successfully dealt with herself.
